How Keepsake Camp ranks and compares gear
The Finder is a relevance engine, not a list of whoever pays most. It narrows published product records against what the visitor asks for, explains each match and keeps commercial data outside the ranking.
Method version 1 · Last reviewed August 29, 2026 · Maintained by the Keepsake Camp editorial team
Finder result order
Products must first pass every active filter. The remaining matches are ordered with the following transparent signals.
Signal 1
Search relevance
Exact product-name matches receive the strongest boost, followed by name, brand, category and published-specification matches.
Signal 2
Selected trip filters
Category, activity, season, budget band, maximum weight and minimum capacity only add relevance when the product matches the user’s explicit choices.
Signal 3
Research completeness
Up to five published specification fields and a verified product image provide small tie-breaking signals. Missing data is shown, never guessed.
Signal 4
Deterministic tie-break
Equal results are ordered by product name and then stable slug, so the same inputs produce the same list.
What never improves a ranking
- Affiliate status or commission rate
- Retailer, discount size or current offer price
- Paid placement or merchant preference
- Unverified ratings, invented review scores or missing specifications
Decision profiles and fit scores
Finder relevance and an editorial fit score are different. A fit score exists only on an approved research profile. Its criteria, weights, rationales and supporting evidence are shown on that page. It is not a customer rating and it is never inferred from a price.
An indexable profile must include a verdict, best uses, meaningful limitations, published specifications, verifiable sources, real alternatives, a named reviewer and a review date. Incomplete products may still appear in Finder with visible research gaps, but remain outside the sitemap.
We distinguish manufacturer specifications, official retailer data, independent testing, expert reviews and our own editorial analysis. Desk research is never presented as firsthand testing.
Commercial boundary and corrections
Retailer links and current deals appear after the editorial explanation. An affiliate relationship may compensate Keepsake Camp after a click or purchase, but it cannot change Finder order, fit criteria or editorial approval. Prices and availability are time-stamped observations and should be confirmed on the retailer’s site.
If a source changes, a specification is wrong or a recommendation no longer holds, contact us. Material corrections update the profile and its review date; cosmetic date changes are not treated as fresh research.
